Many people do not realise that Liverpool has three tunnels under the River Mersey: one is primarily a railway tunnel, the Mersey Railway Tunnel, and the other two road tunnels, Queensway Tunnel and KingswayTunnels being the best known.

There is also the Mersey Ferrys, made famous by Gerry and the Pacemakers with their song "Ferry Cross the Mersey" If you take one of the round ferry trips offered, this very popular song is played every time the ferry prepares to dock at the Liverpool landing stage.

Although not a means of traveling to Liverpool, unless you intend entering from Ireland (Dublin or Belfast ) the Steam Packet Company ferries supply an importand car and passenger link to these locations within the United Kingdom.

Liverpool's train system, Merseyrail, has sections of the track entirely underground, especially the city centre stations. The lines terminate at Southport, Ormskirk, Kirkby, Hunts Cross, Ellesmere Port and Chester. As part of the regeneration of the City a proposed Tram system, Merseytram, is being planned.

Speke Airport was renamed Liverpool John Lennon Airport, in 2001, in honour of the late Beatle John Lennon. The airport's logo is extremely distinctive and is infact a sketch that John had drawn of himself. The now corporate image, also makes reference to "Above us only sky", the lyrics from his most popular song "Imagine".
